Since 2015, Historic Downtown Pulaski has seen a continuous rise in private investment in the district, due to the reintroduction of the Main Street Program.
At the national level the Main Street America Program is three things: a proven strategy for revitalization, a powerful network of linked communities, and a national support program that leads the field. At a State Level, the Tennessee Main Street (TMS) Program serves as a statewide resource for communities seeking to revitalize and manage their traditional downtowns.
For the past ten years, Historic Downtown Pulaski has been instrumental in decisions that affect the downtown district. From beautification of the square to organizing events such as, SunDrop Festival, Saturday on the Square, and Mingle Jingle Tree lighting Main Street has been a leader in the revitalization of our historic downtown.
Historic Downtown Pulaski is a nonprofit organization, relying on public and private donations for operations and projects. Main Street receives no funding from state or federal programs. Without the generosity of our community and the efforts of our volunteers and board, Main Street would disappear.
Our organization focuses on the four elements that help define downtown success.
Design
Improve the aesthetic appeal of the historic commercial district by focusing on enhancing street fronts, street furniture, landscaping, signage, and parking facilities. Promote the integration of sensitive new constructions and the adaptive reuse of historic buildings.
Economic Vitality
Enhance the economic foundation of the established historic commercial district while pinpointing avenues for attracting new businesses to establish roots within the area. Explore innovative uses for historic commercial structures and foster investment in property development.
Organization
Forge enduring collaborations and cultivate widespread agreement among governmental entities, private enterprises, community organizations, and individuals to ensure a thriving future for the historic commercial district.
Promotion
Promote the downtown assets of Pulaski to both residents and visitors through strategic marketing initiatives. Coordinate special events, retail promotions, and image campaigns aimed at increasing foot traffic in the downtown area.
Main Street is dedicated to preserving, enriching, and advocating for the historic downtown as the core of our community. Leveraging the distinctive charm of the courthouse square and its adjacent business district, Main Street endeavors to evolve it into Giles County's premier hub for culture, social gatherings, professional services, and retail experiences.
Downtown shopping is viewed as an immersive encounter, fostering connections among shoppers, merchants, and community support. This engagement reflects the vibrant entrepreneurial spirit of downtown businesses, echoing the essence of our community through their distinctive offerings, services, and ambiance. Housed within historic buildings, these merchants uphold an authentic sense of place.
